Sam Gerrits (1970) is a Dutch geochemist, author and journalist. Sam writes mega-short stories that get published in various books and magazines. He writes for Dutch newspapers NRC Handelsblad and NRC Next.
Together with prize winning philosopher Wouter Kusters Sam wrote an acclaimed fiction/non-fiction work on his experiences in the world of psychiatry, Alone: reportings from the isolation chamber (Translated title), published by the lovely people @ Lemniscaat. The book is illustrated by visual artist Jannemiek Tukker. On this wordpress BLOG you can read part of this book, together with an essay that argues that 1. Yes, psychoses, strokes and other near death experiences are symptoms of a diseased brain. 2. Yes, what people experience during psychoses, strokes and other near death experiences can be seen as an encounter with the magical stuff that unites all of us.
